About Heather

My name is Heather Gailey. I am a 54-year-old mother of two wonderful kids with the heart and vibrancy of a 36-year-old. I am a mother, a lover, a friend, a sister, an aunt, a daughter, a cousin, a teacher, an artist, and an advocate. I am happy and fulfilled with the life I have and I am on a path to turn mere dreams into actions.

Ever since my early 20’s I have dreamed of taking this spiritual journey through France and Spain along a route called the Camino de Santiago. I read in a book by Shirley MacLaine, all those years ago, that the route is thought to be a spiritual fault line that monks would walk when travelling from town to town. It is also said by those who traverse it that is a journey that is best done alone, even though when you walk along it you are never really alone.

For the past 25 years I have been talking to anyone and everyone who would listen about my plans to do this walk sometime before I left this good earth. It has never left my mind and now I am happy to say that I have made it a reality. My original plan was to complete the whole 780 km Camino Frances in my fiftieth year, but the events of that year and the next did not turn out according to plan – It was just not the right time. Instead of not going at all I have decided to do it two parts. The second half now and the first half in the early summer. We gotta do what we gotta do and with this in mind, I was bound and determined not to let anyone other than me take control of my happiness.

After I complete my walk I will be writing a book about my awesome experience…I will keep you posted.

Buen Camino!!
